It was an indian summer. I was freshly engaged and newly returned to school after an unintended year off working. And I found myself laid off. Living in Duvall, and commuting to Seattle every day for school, I had to find a way to make money that didn’t add more craziness into my schedule. And so I picked up my camera, and started shooting for cash.
It’s not a romantic story, but it’s a true one. While I always enjoyed my camera before, my love for taking photos has grown by leaps and bounds since that October day three years ago. It took me a while, but I’ve finally realized that what I love most about photography is capturing the joy and weird idiosyncracies in relationships and helping individuals to see how beautiful they are through and through.
My mission is to make my life worth documenting, and hopefully inspire others to do the same. My new focus on couples and individuals is, in part, my way of forcing myself to embrace where I’m at in life right now. My love is worth documenting. Say that again to yourself. Your love is worth documenting. Even if it’s the both of you sitting on the couch watching a movie most nights, or sitting in the same room doing your respective school work — your life and your love is worth documenting, worth celebrating. And even if it’s not right now, even if it seems too dull and boring, by forcing myself to document it, I am hoping that it will become more interesting.
But it’s not just about me and my husband, it’s about me and myself, too. Learning to love ourselves is one of the hardest challenges we face. Not just loving ourselves for who we are, under our skin, but loving ourselves in our skin. The whole enchilada.
So this venture is as much for me as it is about you. It’s a joint effort, I hope. In which I use my camera in my own life to help me appreciate it more, and every so often, I get to use my camera to help you document your own so I can show you just how beautiful your own life and love is.
I am a wife, a Slavophile, a photographer, a student, a writer. I am a constant observer. I am afflicted by wanderlust. Fond memories of my Floridian childhood surface when I smell that sweet, earthy scent that emanates after a perfect rain, by the rhythmic and beautiful sound of waves crashing against the shore. But even though I love sweet tea more than most, and enjoy a good dish of grits, I consider myself a product of the Pacific Northwest, albeit with a certain Southern flair.
I am a photographer who loves capturing couples in love, brand new families, graduating seniors, aspiring models and individuals with their furbabies. Thus, I focus and specialize on single-person portraiture, couples photography, wedding photography and families with one child under one year.
However, upon request, I do enjoy other types of photography such as children and larger families. Please contact me for details.
Profits from sessions this year go towards this trip. Check out our planning blog to see how things are going and where we’re going!
